Kids Acting Out! Playwrighting Contest

As an extension of its ongoing "KIDS ACTING OUT!" after school program, Theatre 40 is inaugurating a playwrighting contest for middle school students (grades 5 to 8) attending school in the BHUSD and the LAUSD.

Writing on the theme of "Responsibility", the BHUSD's character education theme for the year, the young entrants are asked to create a short play that incorporates the concept of responsibility in some way. Four short plays will be chosen from the two school districts, and those plays will be performed, primarily with middle school actors, in the 2009 presentation at Theatre 40 of KIDS ACTING OUT!

Also, at that time, the winning playwrights will be honored and the first place winner will receive the first ever "Monty and Marilyn Hall Playwrighting" Award and a cash prize of 100. Download the entry form and contest rules here! Deadline for entries is December 31, 2008.
